This one-of-a-kind botanical piece features the remarkable Hibiscus tiliaceus, commonly known as the sea hibiscus—a native Florida coastal plant known for its unique, day-long bloom cycle. Each flower begins the day a bright yellow, turns deep red by evening, and falls by night, making its life span just a single day.

Found throughout the subtropical coasts of Florida, especially along dune lines and mangrove edges, the sea hibiscus plays a vital ecological role—stabilizing soil, providing shade, and supporting local wildlife. In some cultures, its fibrous bark has been used for cordage, and its wood and flowers have traditional uses in herbal remedies.

This piece showcases carefully foraged blooms and leaves from Brevard County, hand-pressed for up to two months and preserved between double glass panes. The panes are sealed with clear silicone to help protect the dried plants from humidity, and secured with framing pins for long-lasting durability.

The arrangement of the hibiscus blooms and foliage was thoughtfully composed to celebrate the plant’s graceful curves and natural symmetry. The frame, hand-selected to complement the deep reds and golds of the plant, ties the whole piece together with timeless elegance.

A statement of both botanical beauty and storytelling, this piece honors one of Florida’s most dynamic native plants—and brings a snapshot of coastal Brevard into your home.
